Breathing.

At around 1:30 am Memphis’ breathing tube was removed, and while he is very fussy, he is breathing just fine on his own. He is still hooked up to a pacemaker as he is still suffering from heart block. I was in the room with him when the cardiologist most recently tried Memphis’ heart without the pacemaker, and while he still required it, he noted that he has shown improvement.

Memphis is incredibly strong, and has been recovering very well. The timeline is still uncertain, but we have the utmost faith in him.

Lots of love,

Vince

Success!

Memphis had his A/V Canal defect repaired. He had a fused valve that was separated and appears to be operating normally. He also had a vascular ring defect repaired (this wasn’t an issue now, but would eventually cause breathing issues). He has a temporary pacemaker for about a week until his heart can either function completely on its own, or he will need a more permanent one.

I want to thank everyone who showed up to wait with us, as well as those who sent us their well wishes, prayers and support.

We love you all very very much.

Out of surgery.

Memphis was wheeled by us a few seconds ago. We don’t know anything other than he is alive and out of surgery.

Day 1

Today was our first day in the hospital. We got in at about 9 am and immediately saw one of the surgeons who will be operating on Memphis (it was a complete accident, but a happy one). After that he had a few tests run, and we started to settle in.

One of Memphis’ Godfathers (Foster Atwood) showed up an hour or so later and sat with us and watched Memphis while Alexis and I got some much needed sleep after (we didn’t sleep at all last night). Some of you might remember that Atwood stayed with us when Memphis ended up here at UCSF after he was born. In addition to being a wonderful Godfather, his knowledge (he’s a nurse), his compassion and levelheadedness have been a Godsend.

Now we are just waiting till tomorrow morning. I don’t see Alexis or I getting much sleep tonight (as I write this its creeping towards 1 AM).

As always, Alexis and I cannot thank you all enough for all your support. You are all amazing, and we are lucky to have you.

More as it happens.

Surgery.

Memphis has been having some breathing problems for the past few weeks. His cardiologist thought it would be best to move up his surgery to this Thrusday. I left work, and Alexis and I have been cleaning the house and getting things ready. This morning we got a call saying his surgeon was “stuck somewhere and couldn’t get an earlier flight back” and that the surgery has been moved to this next monday, 10/25. I know some of you are making special arrangements to be with us on the day of his surgery, and I thank you for sticking with us and working out what you can.

Thank you everyone for your support, I know I’m beating a dead horse here, but you are all making a huge difference during a very difficult time.

I know that there are people who read this and not facebook or twitter, and I will do my best to make sure this site gets updated as often as the other two so everyone can follow along.

Lots of love, and please keep Memphis in your thoughts and prayers.
